Protecting lifesaving immunization services during COVID-19: New guidance from WHO
Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) released new guidance to help countries protect critical immunization services during the COVID-19 pandemic, so that ground is not lost in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Delegates welcome the draft immunization vision and strategy and the global strategy to defeat meningitis by 2030
Forty-eight speakers, including 38 delegates from Member States, three observers and seven non-state actor organizations took the floor during the 146th Executive Board (EB) discussion on the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) and two corresponding decisions: “Strengthening global immunization efforts to leave no one behind” and “Meningitis prevention and control”. This marks a historic engagement at the EB on the GVAP agenda and an important step in preparing for the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA).

Effective outbreak response reduces the risk of measles spread in the Pacific
66顺彩票appIn 2019, the Pacific saw the re-emergence of measles, with outbreaks declared in Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and American Samoa, and cases reported in Kiribati. For Samoa, the country experienced a widescale measles outbreak which had significant impact upon the country’s population and health system. The disease has cost lives, with infants and young children being most affected.

This list, developed with input from our experts around the world, reflects a deep concern that leaders are failing to invest enough resources in core health priorities and systems.This puts lives, livelihoods and economies in jeopardy. None of these issues are simple to address, but they are within reach. Public health is ultimately a political choice.
